The following overviews for each class are guidelines for our class progressions. Ages are given as suggested guidelines; however, in each class, the instructor may make exceptions depending upon a child’s experience level and ability to grasp the material being presented to the class.
Tiny Dancers (formerly Creative Dance) I and II (ages 2-4). The perfect starting point for our youngest dancers, this active class uses movement in a positive way to introduce dance concepts such as space, time, rhythm and balance, while encouraging the child’s creativity and personal expression. Children learn the structure of dance class: about expressing their feelings through movement, following directions and cooperating with others. Classes are a half-hour for children ages 2-3; 45 minutes for ages 3-4. Attire: Black leotard, white tights and black or pink ballet shoes.
Fairytale Ballet (ages to 4-5). Students begin the class with stretches and technical work, then break for a lively telling of a fairytale. This story then becomes an imaginative platform for each of the classes to follow in that session. As children enact scenes from the story, they will learn beginning ballet techniques along with the joy of expressing their own active imaginations. Attire: Black or pink leotard, white tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be secured away from the face.
PreBallet/Tap (ages 4-5). This class introduces beginning ballet technique, vocabulary and choreography with a creative and playful approach. Children learn the structure of dance class and are taught proper technique using creative imagery though movement. Each class will devote the final 20 minutes to beginning tap, helping children learn rhythm combinations, timing and beginning tap technique in this upbeat dance class. Attire: Black or pink leotard, white tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be secured away from the face.
Lil’ Hip Hop (ages 4-5). This popular class appeals to both boys and girls. Children will be introduced to a more rhythmic, upbeat dance style with fun, vibrant music. This class also incorporates “body percussion” moves and routines to appeal to the young child’s need for experiential, active learning. Attire: T-shirt or tank, sweat pants or shorts, clean gym shoes that have not been worn outside the studio. |

Ballet (ages 5 and up). This class emphasizes proper ballet technique and body placement. Barre exercises develop strength and flexibility, while centre work allows the student to practice classic dance principles. Students who are serious about improving as dancers will find that ballet classes are an important foundation for their dance training. Attire: Black leotard, pink or white tights, and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be secured away from the face.
Jazz (ages 5 and up). Students will learn the basics of jazz technique, set to fun and energetic music. While its basis lies in ballet technique, jazz dance allows for more expressive and stylistic movement. Attire: Leotard or unitard, black shorts or jazz pants and black jazz shoes. Hair should be secured away from the face.
Pop Music Jam (ages 6-10). This energetic class combines jazz and hip hop styles with music made popular with the “tweens” by artists such as Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers and more. This is a great starting point for students who are interested in exploring more energetic, up-tempo dance styles. Attire: Loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants or shorts, t-shirt or tank top, and clean gym shoes that have not been worn outside the studio.
Hip Hop (ages 5 and up). The hip hop student will learn techniques such as body isolations, pop-lock movement, and how to execute diverse styles and attitude. Attire: Loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants or shorts, t-shirt or tank top, and clean gym shoes that have not been worn outside the studio.
Break Dancing (ages 10 and up). Break dancing is an athletic dance form which uses your whole body. You will learn breaking, toprocks, footwork, transitions, freezes, and most importantly, how to rock a beat. Class may also include poppin', lockin', and works on top rock, bottom rock, techs and power moves. Attire: Loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants or shorts, t-shirt or tank top, and clean gym shoes that have not been worn outside the studio.
Musical Theatre (ages 8-12). No experience necessary! This energetic class will include acting games, voice techniques and dance styles popular on the Broadway stage. Throughout the session, students will follow a curriculum including: monologues and scenes, song interpretation and perfecting your audition. This class provides excellent preparation for school play and musical auditions.
Social Dance Classes for Adults(ages 16 and up) If you are like most people, you have been thinking about taking dance lessons for some time. You have probably experienced a number of times in your life, a wedding, corporate party or night out perhaps, when you wished that you were a better dancer. Our advice is simple:
"Stop waiting... Don't put it off any longer: Decide to learn to dance with confidence, and have tons of fun in the process!"
Whether you want to dance Salsa, Tango, Cha Cha or Foxtrot, whether you want to become a competitor or just want more confidence as a social dancer, we can help you reach your goals. Dancing, just like any other skill, can be learned with the proper coaching. Our instructors are patient and experienced coaches who want to help you succeed.
And our classes are a blast — highly social, entertaining, and packed with dancing. You'll quickly pick up skills that will make you great every time you hit the dance floor — at clubs, balls, weddings, professional functions — for the rest of your life. We'll even help you make it a longer and healthier life — dancing is the (second) best exercise you can get with another person wrapped in your arms.
We currently offer the following classes for adults, with other options available for unique situations (private and semi-private lessons, choreography for wedding parties and special occasions, and more). Call or e-mail us with your details and we’ll do our best to provide an option to suit your unique situation.
Beginning Ballroom: Learn to dance the fox trot, tango and waltz, plus several other classic moves--these are the dances you need to know, along with Swing, to dance elegantly in almost any situation. In this class, you will also learn good technique and partnering skills. We’ll cover approximately 4-6 figures from the dances listed above. Even more importantly, we'll use those figures as the context in which you’ll learn a high level of Leading and Following skills —that’s where the real magic of partner dancing is found.
Each week, your instructor will continue to build on and review what you’ve already learned. This method punches up the learning process and will help you build skills more quickly than in comparable classes at other studios.
And as an added bonus, your instructor will provide you with a CD of music used in class and several class videos which you can access online in order to assist you with practice between classes.
Continuing Ballroom: More foxtrot, waltz and tango. We'll continue where we left off in the Beginning Ballroom class, with some of the showiest 2nd-level moves available in these three dances. For a few examples, in Foxtrot we'll learn a Backwards Basic, the Feather Diagonals, the Traveling Crossovers (aka Butterflies), Twinkles, and a Promenade Pivot Turn. In Waltz, we'll borrow and adapt many of these new Foxtrot steps — they look great in Waltz, and some of them actually originated in Waltz and were adapted to Foxtrot. As time allows, we’ll continue to build on each of these dances and use them as a platform for improving our leading and following technique –that’s where you’ll find that you are truly dancing with confidence.
Beginning Swing: Join us for an unusually thorough and entertaining beginners’ course. You'll learn over 15 moves from East Coast Swing and Jitterbug, along with a few showy turns and spins in just 10 weeks. Throughout the session, we'll strongly emphasize good leading and following technique, because that's the key to becoming a confident dance partner in every situation.
And as an added bonus, your instructor will provide you with a CD of music used in class and several class videos which you can access online in order to assist you with practice between classes.
Continuing Swing: In this Intermediate/Advanced level course, we’ll learn West Coast Swing and Hustle, along with more intricate spins, double-turns, tuck-turns, catapults, combination turns, etc. You’ll also find that you dramatically improve your technique in this process. If time permits, you’ll also learn a few sweet dips. This class begins where the Beginning Swing class left off (see above), so you’ll be perfectly prepared! (Yes, we'll do a quick review of everything from the Beginning Class.)
As in our other adult social dance classes, your instructor will provide you with a CD of music used in class and several class videos which you can access online in order to assist you with practice between classes.
Beginning Latin: This energetic class will teach some of the hottest dances out there right now, breaking each one down into simple steps that anyone can learn. We’ll start with Rumba, the Cha Cha and Salsa; learning 4-6 figures in each.
And as an added bonus, your instructor will provide you with a CD of music used in class and several class videos which you can access online in order to assist you with practice between classes.
Continuing Latin: In Rumba, we'll build on our Box Basic variations and learn several new ways of ending the Slow Underarm Turn. We'll also learn the other Rumba Basic step, the "zig-zag" form, which also appears in Cha-Cha and (slightly different) in Salsa. As time permits, we’ll also introduce other forms such as Cumbia, Merengue, Bachata, Mambo and Bolero.
As in our other adult social dance classes, your instructor will provide you with a CD of music used in class and several class videos which you can access online in order to assist you with practice between classes. |
